Where is the school and what is it like?

Castila is located in the heart of Granada, in the old Moorish quarter of the Albaicín, made up of narrow, winding streets, water wells, patios, intoxicating aromas,
small squares and plazas and charming little lookout points from which to admire the Alhambra. It is located in the Carmen de los Gatos, a building especially designed for teaching Spanish in garden areas with impressive views of the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

How will I learn Spanish?

Once the student’s level and his communicational needs are determined, he will be assigned to a group with a specific work plan and objectives for his entire stay. In addition to the classes, maximum importance is devoted to extra-curricular
activities. The goal is to achieve full linguistic immersion in an atmosphere of study and cultural exchange.

What do the students of Castila think about it?

Many highlight the fact that ‘the professors’ are the school’s strong point, others emphasize the ‘method’. A large majority feel like Barbara Wolf: “I have studied language courses in other places, but these are indeed the best”. Almost everyone
agrees with Susanne Gerhard: “Castila is not just a school, it is a way of life in Spain”, something similar to the conclusion reached by Agnès Christeler, when she refers to the “soul” of Castila and says that “it is a world unto itself”.

How to choose a Spanish language course in Spain?

Learning a foreign language is a very complex task and all the details are highly important when you have to live in nother country. Since 1988, everyone at Castila has been working very hard and investigating ways to make your stay that much easier and pleasant: your arrival, your lodgings, your classes, your school, how you learn, the extracurricular activities… First, consider your specific needs, then choose a city and check to see how these characteristics are presented in the different schools.

- Intensive language courses:

• General (A): 4 classes/day, 20 classes/week.
• General (B): 6 classes/day, 30 classes/week.

- Preparatory course for the DELE examination: (5 classes/day).

- Preparatory course for the Spanish Business Certificate.

- Courses with specific goals:
• E/LE Didactics.
• Commercial Spanish.
• Culture and Society.
• Literature.
• Private classes.
• Programmes for groups of teachers and/or students.

• Sharing an apartment with other students.
• Living with a Spanish family (half or full board) or with other Spaniards, sharing an apartment.
• Two bedroom apartments.
• Garden and/or terrace.
• Swimming pool available.
• A 15 minute walk at most from the school.

programme of activities

There are almost 40 different activities especially designed and organised by Castila. The activities are carried out in two week programmes. This section is of utmost importance in a method which is intended to combine the classroom study of the language with the discovery of its real use.
The programme does not just include films, songs, debates, but also guided tours of the city, with cultural purposes in mind: • Going shopping • Visiting tapa bars and popular night spots • Culinary exhibitions and cooking classes • Wine tasting • Attending exhibitions and concerts • Skiing • Enjoying the beaches, by boat or on foot • Cities, customs and culture • Mother Nature: mountain ranges, deserts, lakes, rivers and coastlines • Sports • Parties • Flamenco • Local traditions, customs and discovering the hospitality of the people. And everything can be in Spanish, if you like.
